Invisible Braces in Kilchberg: Straight Teeth with Aligners

Many adults want straight teeth but are put off by conspicuous metal braces. Invisible braces, known as aligners, offer a discreet and comfortable alternative.

Aligners are clear plastic trays that are custom-made based on digital planning and gradually move the teeth into the desired position, similar to fixed braces, but they are virtually invisible. At our practice in Kilchberg, we use the Invisalign system.

Here's how the treatment works

On the computer, you can see a simulation of the result before the first splint is made.
Digital Planning

First, your teeth are digitally scanned and a treatment plan is created. Based on this, a simulation of the entire treatment process is generated, allowing you to see in advance how your teeth will change. If the simulation matches your desired outcome, the set of aligners is manufactured.

For planning purposes, impressions are taken of both jaws and sent to Align Tech in San Francisco, where they are digitized and processed into a computer simulation known as a ClinCheck. We review this simulation with you, check it, and make corrections as needed. Only once it meets the desired goal are the aligners manufactured.

Each aligner is worn for about 14 days, after which you move on to the next one. Every two weeks, you’ll pick up the next aligner at the office, and we’ll check your progress. The aligners apply gentle, controlled forces to move your teeth into the planned position. The treatment duration is similar to that of fixed braces and depends on your initial condition.

Comfortable for Everyday Use

Clear aligners are removable and virtually invisible to others.
Removable

The aligners are almost invisible and can be removed for about two to three hours a day—for example, to eat, drink, or for special occasions. They are worn the rest of the time. Brushing your teeth is just as usual, since there are no wires or brackets to get in the way that food particles can get stuck in.

  • Virtually invisible: Transparent aligners, barely noticeable to others.
  • Comfortable: No wires or metal brackets, less irritation in the mouth.
  • Flexible: Removable for eating, drinking, and brushing your teeth.
  • Predictable: The result can be simulated in advance on a computer.
  • Low-pain: The treatment is largely painless and does not cause any allergic reactions.

This makes invisible braces particularly appealing to adults who value discretion in their professional lives, as well as to teenagers after they have finished losing their baby teeth. We always begin with a detailed consultation, during which we discuss your misalignment, the potential outcome, the treatment process, and the costs.

You will see your result on the screen before treatment begins.

Who Aligners Are Suitable For—and Who They Aren't

Aligners are a good solution for many adults and teenagers who value discretion. But let's be honest: they aren't always the best choice.

  • Highly recommended: Adults and adolescents with mild to moderate malocclusions.
  • At borders: In cases of severe misalignment, significant rotation of individual teeth, or pronounced jaw abnormalities, fixed braces are often the better choice.
  • Restricted for children: It only makes sense after the child has finished losing their baby teeth.
  • Requires discipline: The braces must be worn consistently; if you take them out too often, you risk a less effective result.

After treatment

Once the desired position has been achieved, the teeth are stabilized with a retainer that holds them in their new position. This step is important to prevent the teeth from gradually shifting back.
