The \"laser\" has now become an integral part of modern medicine. It has also been used in dentistry for 30 years. However, it is only in recent years that laser technology for dentistry has been refined to such an extent that it has found its way into everyday practice as a modern treatment method. Despite misleading reports in the media, its best-known application - \"drilling\" with the laser - is unfortunately still in its infancy, with this area serving more for marketing purposes than practical benefits.<\/p>

Thanks to the bactericidal (decontaminating) effect of the laser beam, treatment can be carried out without surgery in many cases. After removing tartar and plaque, the thin laser probe is inserted to the bottom of the bacterially colonized periodontal pocket. There, the laser beam eliminates the aggressive periodontitis germs and thus creates the conditions for the gum disease to heal.
